It was an evening of gratitude, prayer, and renewed hope at the permanent site of Shanahan University, Onitsha, as His Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze paid a special visit to inspect the ongoing construction work, accompanied by His Grace Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, Archbishop of Onitsha.

The distinguished visitors toured the expansive site, taking in the remarkable progress made so far, from the golden-roofed academic buildings rising above the landscape to the newly paved walkways, solar-powered street lighting, and the imposing entrance gate that now bears the university’s name.

A Moment of Gratitude and Blessing

During the visit, the Cardinal prayed for the success of the project and for the experts in the different fields who are putting in their best to ensure the best possible outcome across every section of the work. He also prayed for the Archdiocese of Onitsha, which is undertaking the project, for the generous donors supporting it, and for the generations of students who will one day learn, grow, and be formed within these walls, that the university may bear lasting and positive fruits in our society.

“It was a moment of gratitude to God for the progress made so far, and of renewed commitment to this important project… We remain hopeful that, through the grace of God and the support of our people and friends, this vision of providing quality education rooted in Christian values will become a lasting reality.”

— His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, Archbishop of Onitsha

A Campus Taking Shape

Work at the permanent site continues at an encouraging pace. The main academic complex is now crowned with its distinctive golden roof, while finishing work progresses on the faculty buildings. At the entrance to the campus, the gatehouse is taking form beneath its steel roof framing, and the perimeter wall now proudly announces Shanahan University Onitsha to all who pass by.

A Vision Becoming Reality

Shanahan University, Onitsha, is the fruit of a bold vision of the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha: to provide quality education rooted in Christian values, applying knowledge for innovation and productivity. Every pillar raised and every roof completed at the permanent site brings that vision closer to reality.

The university community remains deeply grateful to its friends, partners, and donors whose generosity continues to drive the project forward, and looks ahead with confidence to welcoming students to this magnificent new campus.
