Biography

Rev. Fr. Prof. Chukwunonso Dominic Obielosi is the Vice-Chancellor of Shanahan University, Onitsha. He is a Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Onitsha, a Professor of Religion and Human Relations, biblical scholar, educator and experienced university administrator.

His academic and professional career spans several decades of teaching, research, university administration, postgraduate supervision, pastoral ministry and service to the Church and society. His principal areas of scholarship are Biblical Studies and New Testament Studies, with broader research interests in biblical hermeneutics, theology, religion and human relations, Christian ethics and contemporary social issues.

Fr. Obielosi received his philosophical and theological formation at All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha; Seat of Wisdom Seminary, Owerri; and Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu. He pursued postgraduate studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Biblical and Jewish Religious Studies and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, specialising in New Testament Studies. He also obtained a Master's degree in Education from St. John's University, New York, USA, with a concentration in Scripture and Educational Leadership.

Before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Shanahan University, he had an extensive academic career at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where he rose to the rank of Professor in the Department of Religion and Human Relations. He served in several leadership capacities, including Head of Department and Director of the Centre for Community and Rural Development, in addition to numerous responsibilities in postgraduate studies, admissions, research, quality assurance and university administration.

Alongside his academic work, Fr. Obielosi has maintained an active priestly and pastoral ministry. He has served as Parish Priest, Rector and lecturer, with pastoral assignments in Nigeria and the United States, as well as responsibilities within the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha.

A prolific scholar, he has authored and contributed to numerous books, book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers. His scholarship engages biblical interpretation and theology alongside contemporary questions of human dignity, governance, religious pluralism, peacebuilding, migration, ethics and the relationship between Christianity and society.

He has also supervised Master's and doctoral research and served as an editor, reviewer and member of scholarly and professional bodies.

As Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Obielosi brings together his experience as a priest, scholar, educator and university administrator in providing academic and administrative leadership to Shanahan University. His office is responsible for advancing the University's academic mission, strengthening institutional standards and supporting the formation of students through scholarship, character and service.
